Day 12 :: Muse 1, site is live!

Day 11 & 12 have been quite busy. I have been working feverishly to complete the micro site and get it online. I am quite happy to announce it is online, and ready to go. All I need to do at this point is setup a Google Adwords campaign to start driving some traffic. I would post the url here, but I do not want to skew the results of the micro site testing. The goal here is to determine if there is a market for the product.

As I have spent the majority of my Sunday and a good part of my Saturday getting the site ready it has given me some time to reflect on my progress on my first muse. I would like to elaborate on my reflections in a separate post, but I will through down a few high level observations at this point:

  • Limit how much time you spend projecting costs for manufacturing and retailing until the market opportunity is confirmed.
  • Grab a web design from one of the hundreds of online providers for speed’s sake.
  • Focus on the high level priorities when working on rolling out the test site. I have been getting “lost” in way too many little details.

My day 13 game plan is to get a Google Adwords campaign going, and get the campaign setup in Google Analytics. As far as developing a second micro site for a more targeted niche market, I am going to hold off until I see a need for it. I will see what this first site can do out of the gate before investing more time into a potentialy dead idea.

Day 10 :: Muse 1, design complete!

I am excited to report the initial design for the first micro site is complete! Later this evening I will start developing the web site. This should put me right on schedule for a Monday release.

I also discovered that my good friends at Google offer an A/B testing solution called Website Optimizer. As an added bonus it appears to be a free tool. This could prove to be quite beneficial in the next few weeks as I would like to setup 2 different micro sites targeting 2 different markets.

Day 9 :: Muse 1, So close

At this point I am working on positioning the very last element for the micro site. That element being the guarantee. It is a must have, but I am just out of space! Hopefully tonight I will be able to get an hour in on the design and finish it up. Then Friday I can go to work implementing the design which will put me right on track for a Monday release.

Day 8 :: Muse 1 A/B testing & Muse 2 partner on board

Today while working on some of the final details of my micro site for muse 1 I realized that my web site may be to generic to the product. Meaning I am not targeting to my niche market enough. Since I am not more than 5 elements away from completing the design I have decided I will us A/B testing with my micro site and test two different versions of the site. I will get the first version out by Monday the 25th, and hopefully have the second version setup within the following week.

For Muse 2, today I talked with my potential expert that I am planning to team up with to create some digital content. Thankfully they are interested in coming on board with me and putting something together. I believe Muse 2 will be quite an enjoyable challenge as it is likely I will have to use some of Tim’s techniques to become recognized as an industry expert, or at least elevate my partners status in the industry. It will have a challenging Public Relations aspect as we will need to position ourselves as experts in the field.
