About

Welcome to my lovely little blog. My name is Nathan Hein and I am  just another web designer and developer blogging away about my life and my work…which oddly enough are one in the same. I have been designing and developing for the web since about 1999. From simple HTML written in Notepad back in the early days to todays full CSS/XHTL layouts designed primarily in Photoshop & coded in Dreamweaver. I currently follow the design strategy of Progressive enhancements, which in general means I code to the highest level of browser compatibility with lesser browsers and platform degrading in a graceful way that still allows use of the core functionality of the site. I have certainly come along way in my career yet I still have a long way to go.

When I am not working at my full time position of Web Producer at a very large online marketing firm, I own and operate my own Web Marketing firm. I started my company, Port Eighty, Inc. , official in January 2006. Unofficially, I started Port Eighty in May of 2004. In the beginning, I primarily offered web hosting which was to be an entry point and value point for web design and development. As business started picking up in 2005-2006 I incorporated and became Port Eighty, inc.

Current I run Port Eighty, Inc. on the side of my full time Front-end development job. I focus on catering to a small but growing customer base. This allows me to focus more on quality rather than quantity while being able to build strong relationships with the businesses I work with. In short, this is what I really love to do.
